Your Guide to Boston Logan (BOS) International Airport

Despite being surrounded on three sides by Boston Harbor, as well as taking up only 1,700 acres of ground space, Boston Logan (BOS) International Airport has established itself as the primary airport to serve New England and tens of millions of passengers each year. Commercial flights began leaving out of BOS (originally called Jeffrey Field) in 1927, and the airport has grown in size to four terminals with over 40 airlines flying to 100 international and domestic destinations each year. Set up so that each terminal is separate but connected by walkways, BOS is easy to navigate and maneuver.

Maps

You can go old-fashioned (paper) or modern (interactive) with the map options that BOS provides on its website. If you know where you’ll be flying out of (or into) and/or connecting, check out the map in advance to get a good idea of your whereabouts in case of any delays.

Parking/Ground Transportation

BOS provides connected walkways from its central parking garage to the terminals and free shuttle service from ground transportation. Additionally, there is a free subway line from downtown Boston’s South Station directly to the airport. BOS goes even further in providing options on how to get to the airport, offering storage for bikes if you choose to bike there, or, suggestions on how to take a water taxi via the harbor.

Eating, Drinking & Shopping

You won’t leave Boston hungry, that’s for sure. Many choices in cuisine and type of service (quick serve, sit down, pub) are available. Definitely seek out some more of the local flavors…there are four Legal Seafood locations in three terminals! Clam chowder, anyone?

Art

Boston Logan has a public art program that is aimed to educate and inspire visitors which showcases local artists’ work. Also, because of the airport’s role in the 9/11 tragedy, there is a permanent onsite memorial to provide a place of reflection and pause for those affected by and lost in the tragedy.
