Best Zoo Trips Across America

It’s often said the comfort of an animal is like no other. That’s probably why millions of people visit zoos in the United States each year, and with so many to choose from, where do you start? According to USA Today, there are a number of top, outstanding zoos to visit across the country. Just to scratch the surface, here are the top five:

Fort Worth Zoo

From kids’ programs to conservation participation in more than 30 countries and a $100 million capital campaign, it’s no wonder Fort Worth Zoo tops the list! Founded in 1909 with about 10 animals, this zoo has grown to house more than 7,000 animals. With modernized renovations, an expansion of more than 10 acres, and an influx of several new species of animals over the next several years, it is the zoos hope it “will help continue to strengthen the bond between humans and animals.”

Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

Founded in 1873, the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is home to more than 20 different habitats, a number of exclusive animal encounters and experiences, as well as one of ONLY two accredited botanical gardens in Ohio. Surely something not to miss!

Omaha’s Hengry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium

With the purchase of its first three animals in 1895, the Omaha’s Hengry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium was born! The zoo has many features, including the African Grasslands, Children’s Adventure Trails, Stingray Beach, African SkyFari, Aquarium, the Lied Jungle, and much, much more.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

With the motto, “Enjoy. Interact. Understand.” – it’s no wonder the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado is 4th on the list. Located on a mountainside in Colorado Springs with beginnings back to 1926, this 146-acre zoo brings the animals up close, with exhibits that offer hand feeding (such as giraffes), incredible views from the Mountaineer Sky Ride, and a half a dozen customized animal experiences for kids of all ages.

Brevard Zoo

Located in the sunshine state of Florida, Brevard Zoo is the youngest on our list, only opening in 1994. With unique exhibits such as the Sea Turtle Healing Center, Zoo School (a nationally recognized education program), and conservation efforts around oysters and mangroves, this zoo packs a punch in fun education.
